Since these frequencies are not available on most common radios, a radio
with a weather band is required to receive NWS broadcasts.
Simply put, the weather band is the group of fequencies between 162.400
and 162.550. More advanced weather radios also include alarms that sound
when the National Weather Service has issued alerts for emergency weather,
natural, man-made and civil conditions.
For local frequencies in areas within the United States, refer to the
NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) poster available in adobe
acrobat (pdf) format. This poster was updated in October, 2004 and shows
NWR's broadcast locations and frequencies. |
