 On June 30, 2004 NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) upgraded the Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) codes. The codes shown below that are listed as Operational were effective as of that date. SAME-enabled radio receivers manufactured before that date may display them as unknown codes. Most older SAME receivers should still play the audio broadcast of the alert. Check your receiver's manual or the manufacturer's website for more information. If you do not receive the new codes, you may want to consider buying a newer SAME enabled radio. The older receivers will continue to receive the event codes that were in effect before June 30, 2004.
